India’s first Lady IPS – The proud Indian woman – Kiran Bedi
She is the first woman to join the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1972.
On the 1973 Republic Day, this first lady IPS participated in a parade in front of first Indian lady Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
People usually ask her, Why she joined IPS? She replies, “Because I want to serve the people from a position of authority so that I can serve them best.”
About her:
· Birth Date: 9th of June 1949
· Birth Place: Amritsar, Punjab, India.
· Education:
1. School – The Sacred Heart Convent School, Amritsar.
2. B.A. (English) [1968] – The Government College for Women, Amritsar.
3. Master’s degree (Political science) [1970] – Punjab University, Chandigarh.
4. LLB [1988] – Delhi University, Delhi.
5. Ph.D. (Social Sciences) [1993] – Awarded by Department of Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi.
Sports:
· National junior Tennis champion at the age 16.
· Kiran Bedi is also a former all-India and all-Asian tennis champion.
· Kiran had won the Asian Ladies Title at the age of 22.
· Best athlete of her college.
Career:
· She has started her career as Lecturer in Political Science at Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar, India.
· In 1972, she was selected for the Indian Police Service. She was first lady selected for IPS.
· She has worked as Traffic Commissioner of New Delhi, Deputy Inspector General of Police in insurgency prone Mizoram, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Chandigarh, Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau and also on a United Nations deputation.
· Inspector General of Prisons, Tihar Jail (Delhi).

Career Achievements:
· In 1977, she put an end to the Akali-Nirankari Sikh riots at India Gate.
· 1979, as DCP (West Delhi), she broke up a 200-year-old illicit liquor trade.
· In 1981 as DCP (Traffic) she controlled traffic during the 1982 Asian Games efficiently. She didn’t hesitate to tow away cars and once even challenged the Prime Minister’s car for wrong parking near a car repair shop.
In 1993, as the Inspector General of Asia’s biggest jail – the Tihar jail (9100 inmates including 300 women) she turned the unlivable jail into an abode of education. Said Kiran while joining her posting at the jail, “I want to transform this jail into an Ashram within six months”. She introduced many classes and programs for the inmates including those on basic education, meditation, yoga besides functions like mushairas, kavi sammelans, dramas and games, which involved the jail inmates. For her effort to humanize the Tihar jail she was honored with the 1994 Ramon Magsaysay Award
Kiran Bedi’s voluntary retirement:
Kiran Bedi submitted her application on November 15, 2007, saying she wanted to quit to pursue “strong academic and social interests”. The government accepted retirement plea and decided to relieve Bedi, who was holding the post of the Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development.

I would like to cotact Mrs. Bedi to discuss on the issue of to reformation in our general elction proceeder which was in my mind for a long, ‘Right to reject all the condidates in the list’ during election time. When all candidates are creminals and corrupts, people should have the right to reject all of them, which bar them in all the future election as well.
Enough is Enough, people of India, especialy youngs should try to free the country from these incompetent and corrupt politicians, who think themselves not servent but kings of the people. Most of them, if and when they retire, pass-on their seats to their sons/daughter or brothers.

I need your advice to handle the situation.Actually One married man residing in front of my residence at Kanpur is trying to approach my sister(23 yrs) on her way ,passing comments and sometimes tried to touch her during her way.And we had registered a complaint in police every time and police as usual letting him go afetr taking bribe from his mother and he continuously doing the same and we also spoken to her mother(bank Employee-handicapped) and her wife so many times about this and also given a warning but no change in his activity.Now my sister is got engaged with one educated boy in kanpur and going to be married on 21-Feb-2009.At this that man and my sister fiance are in Police Station due to fight happened between that fellow and my sister fiance as that man has hitted my sister and her fiance by stone nearby to my residence.My sister called the police when they both returned back to my residence.But the Police Inspector has arrested both(That Man and my sister fiance) of them and not helping us to resolve the same and even not listening to my father(Retd. Professor from one Reputed Govt. Engg. College in Kanpur)and saying that you please go back to your home also saying we know how to handle the situation and giving hints to give some money.
So I am requesting you to please suggest the legal steps to be taken and please take an action before any wrong thing happened to my family and also suggest where can we registered the complains against the Police.I am scared as my mother and father are all alone there in kanpur.Please do something.

I would like to suggest u that, try to convince your girl friend for court marriage if she is not ready for same then its difficult to provide solution as you 2 are very essential elements of marriage, if any one of u is not ready cause of any reason then you can not go ahead. and if u 2 are ready then nobody can stop u. tell her that doing love marriage or court marriage or intercast marriage will never ruin her parents image in society as this is not a very strange thing for society now days. and after few days of marriage her family will accept her and u. so tell dont think much about and go for marriage.
